Stake presidencies and stake Sunday School presidencies instruct stake leaders, bishoprics, and ward Sunday School presidencies on how to implement Teaching in the Savior's Way. In turn, bishoprics and ward Sunday School presidencies instruct ward leaders; this instruction takes place in a ward council meeting. For resources, see teaching.lds.org.
Suggestions for Stake and Ward Leaders
- In the video "Introduction to Teacher Council Meetings" (found at teaching.lds.org), Elder Jeffrey R. Holland discusses the importance of teacher council meetings. You could watch this video together and discuss what you learn. Other videos that demonstrate how to hold effective teacher council meetings are available at teaching.lds.org.
- Page 3 of the booklet Teaching in the Savior's Way provides details about teacher council meetings, such as when they should be held, who should attend, and who should lead. Review these instructions as a group and create a plan for holding teacher council meetings in your unit.
- Review together the contents page of Teaching in the Savior's Way and identify principles that you feel would be important for teachers in your ward or stake to discuss in teacher council meetings.
- Review the final page of Teaching in the Savior's Way, which gives guidelines to help priesthood and auxiliary leaders orient new teachers. Leaders will find helpful videos on teaching.lds.org in the section titled "A leader's role."
Other Important Considerations
- Under the direction of the bishop, ward councils plan monthly teacher council meetings as soon as possible after the stake instruction. Leaders continually assess the effectiveness of these meetings and give ongoing guidance and support.
- Where available, the Sunday School president plays a key role in the implementation and success of the teacher council meetings. He studies the resources found on teaching.lds.org in the section titled "Learn together to teach like the Savior."
- Auxiliary presidencies orient new teachers--and existing teachers--using the instructions in Teaching in the Savior's Way and the videos found at teaching.lds.org in the section titled "A leader's role."
These instructions may be adapted to local circumstances as described in Handbook 2, 17.2.
