Member Invitation Visit Outline

  • Introduction (build a relationship of trust)
  • Request permission to share a message on missionary work
    • Share video - "I'll Go Where You Want Me To Go" or other missionary message.

  • Share and Invite the family to share their feelings on the message.
  • Information - For the past couple of years, we have been hearing from our Prophet and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles that the Lord is Hastening the Work of Salvation and that we too need to hasten our efforts in helping Him.
    • President Thomas S. Monson - "Now is the time for members and missionaries to come together, to work together, to labor in the Lord's vineyard to bring souls unto Him.  He has prepared the means for us to share the gospel in a multitude of ways, and He will assist us in our labors if we will act in faith to fulfill His work."
    • Elder Neil L. Anderson - We work together in faith and unity - faith that the Lord will guide our steps and unity with each other and with the missionaries, always motivated by our love for Jesus Christ, our love for one another, and out love for those we serve."
    • Elder Neil L. Anderson - "If you're not a full-time missionary with a missionary badge pinned on your coat, now is the time to paint one on your heart--painted, as Paul said, 'not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God."
  • Question: After hearing these words and watching this video, what does Hastening the Work of Salvation mean to you?  What do you feel the Lord and his leaders are asking of each of us?
  • Support their answer and build upon, if needed.
  • Share the challenge President Livingston extended to each member of the Stake from two conference ago and issued again by President Brinton in our last Stake Conference
    • Watch the video, "I'll Go Where You Want Me To Go".
    • Memorize Your Purpose from chapter 1 of Preach My Gospel
    • As a couple and family, council together on "What does it mean to be a missionary minded family?  How can we be more missionary minded?"
  • Ask the family if they have found time to start this challenge?
  • If they have, invite them to share their experiences and then share your experience. (Testify).
  • Invite and ask each member of the family if they will personally accept the challenge to be a missionary minded and work on President Livingston's challenge.  Testify of the blessings and opportunities that will be presented as they do so.  Share personal experiences and if you have none, let them know that you too have recently accepted the challenge and are starting this with your family.
  • Ask if you can follow-up every few weeks to allow the family to share their experiences with you.
  • Thank them for allowing you to spend some time in their home, for their testimonies, for their faith, and for their willingness to help the Lord in His great work of salvation.
  • Close the visit with a prayer.

Helpful Quotes -

President Thomas S. Monson, - "Come, All Ye Sons of God," General Conference, May 2013.
"Missionary work is an identifying feature of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Always has it been; ever shall it be.  As the Prophet Joseph Smith declared, 'After all that has been said, the greatest and most important duty is to preach the Gospel.'"

Elder Russell M. Nelson, - "Catch the Wave," General Conference, May 2013.
"Together, members and missionaries invite all to learn of God, of Jesus Christ, and of His gospel.  Each inquiring individual should seek earnestly and pray fervently for the assurance that these things are true.  The truth will be manifest by the power of the Holy Ghost."

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, - "My dear friends, today there are more ways than ever for us to open our mouths and share with others the joyful news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  There is a way for everyone--even the hesitant missionary--to participate in the is great work."  Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God, ye are called to the work' (D&C 4:3)."

Elder Clayton M. Christensen, - "The ability to share the gospel isn't a 'gift' that has been given to only a few Latter-day Saints and denied to the rest.  We have concluded from our own experiences and from watching others that finding people for the missionaries to teach can be easy and natural for all of us--if we go about it the Lord's way."

President Ezra Taft Benson, - "Our work will be light and easy to bear if we will depend on the Lord and work.  Don't worry about being successful.  We are going to be successful--there is not doubt about it.  The Lord has sent us to earth at the time of harvest. He does not expect us to fail.  He has called not one to this work to fail.  He expects us to succeed."
