Elements of a Family Mission Plan

In preparing your Family Mission Plan consider choosing from this list of ideas things you are not currently doing or would like to do better.


MISSIONARY PREPARATION:

  • Have daily personal and family scripture study
  • Have daily personal and family prayer
  • Attend the temple regularly
  • Study Preach My Gospel, especially chapter 3
  • Youth - take frequent opportunities to teach in Sunday School and YM/YW (Come Follow Me).  Combined FHE with other families where youth teach
  • View Hastening the Work of Salvation videos at lds.org/training/wwlt/2013/hastening
  • Periodically review your Family Mission Plan during Family Home Evening
  • Make financial preparations for a future mission
  • Attend Seminary, Institute and Mission Preparation Classes
  • Other?


SERVE SOMEONE (Non or Less-Active Members):

  • Pray for service and missionary opportunities each day
  • Fast for service and missionary opportunities
  • Be involved in community service
  • Plan a community service project that involves others not of our faith
  • Give service whenever you see a need.  Don’t hesitate.
  • Serve your ancestors by finding their names and doing their temple work
  • Other?

SHARE WITH SOMEONE (Non or Less-Active Members):

  • Give someone a subscription to a church magazine
  • Share your testimony with someone
  • Give someone a Book of Mormon, a Pass-Along Card or a Church video
  • Share friendship, have a conversation with someone
  • Share a General Conference talk with someone
  • Share your home for the missionaries to teach
  • Share something you learned at church with someone
  • Share with someone how the gospel blessed your life
  • Use the internet or social media to share with someone in the following ways:
    • Create a profile on mormon.org (mormon.org/create)
    • Start a blog and share how the gospel blesses your life
    • Share a mormon message, video, etc. through social media
    • Use Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to share your testimony, gratitude, gospel blessings or experience
    • Refer someone to mormon.org

INVITE SOMEONE (Non or Less Active Members):

  • Invite someone to dinner
  • Invite someone to a church activity
  • Invite someone to church
  • Invite someone to family home evening
  • Invite someone to meet the missionaries and learn more about the church in your home
  • Invite someone out of your area to meet with the missionaries and refer them through mormon.org/missionaries
  • Invite someone to do family history work using familysearch.org
  • Invite someone to help you do service
  • Invite someone to help with a ward activity
  • Invite someone to hear a family member give a talk at church
  • Invite someone to see a baby blessing or baptism
  • Invite someone to share a talent, lesson or experience at a church fireside, activity or meeting
  • Other?

FELLOWSHIP SOMEONE (Non or Less-Active Members and Recent Converts):

  • Greet and welcome anyone you don’t know at church
  • Invite someone who needs fellowshipping to sit by you at church.  Help them to their meetings following sacrament meeting and join them if possible
  • Support Missionaries by:
    • Pray for the missionaries serving in your area by name and pray for those serving throughout the world
    • Pray for specific individuals the missionaries are working with
    • Fast for the missionaries and their investigators
    • Off specific help and fellowship for those the missionaries are working with
    • Invite the missionaries to dinner or to teach your family a missionary lesson
    • Go on splits with the missionaries
    • Donate to the ward or general missionary fund
    • Support missionaries from your ward:  Pray for them, write to them, visit with their families about their missions
