In general as a teacher: 1) keep the commandments, 2) study and ponder the scriptures and words of the prophets, 3) pray, fast and humble yourself before the Lord and 4) attend the temple.
Week 1
- Meet with a member of your ward auxiliary presidency about your new calling.
- Discuss and set goals for class.
- Watch and ponder President Eyring's video "Rise to Your Call".
- Review section 5.5.4 of HB2.
- Read the introduction to the "Come Follow Me" program.
- Watch 4 videos from the "Teaching Videos" in the "Learning and Teaching Ideas" section and incorporate (at least) one teaching technique in your next lesson.
Week 2
- Read "Welcome".
- Read "Teaching in the Savior's Way" and watch the associated videos.
- Watch 4 more videos from the "Teaching Videos" in the "Learning and Teaching Ideas" section and incorporate (at least) one teaching technique in your next lesson.
Week 3
- Read "Principles of Teaching Youth" and watch the associated videos.
- Read "Determining What to Teach" and watch the associated videos.
- Read "Learning Outlines", "Increasing Your Effectiveness", The Purpose of Each Organization & Auxiliary", and "Basic Doctrinal Principles".
- Watch 4 more videos fro the "Teaching Videos" in the "Learning and Teaching Ideas" section and incorporate (at least) one teaching technique in the next lesson.
Week 4
- Watch 4 more videos from the "Teaching Videos" in the "Learning and Teaching Ideas" section and incorporate (at least) one teaching technique in your next lesson.
- Listen to Elder Holland's "Preparing to Teach" from the 2007 Worldwide Leadership Training.
Week 5
- Watch 4 more videos from the "Teaching Videos" in the "Learning and Teaching Ideas" section and incorporate (at least) one teaching technique in your next lesson.
- Watch the church video "Are You a Talking Head".
- Read/listen to the October 2013 Ensign article "My Teachers Quorum Is an MTC" by Russell Wilcox.
Week 6
- Watch 3 more videos from the "Teaching Videos" in the "Learning and Teaching Ideas" section and incorporate (at least) one teaching technique in your next lesson.
- Have a follow-up meeting with a member of your ward auxiliary presidency.
- Review goals.
- Schedule to attend your ward's monthly teacher council meeting and use the "Teaching in the Savior's Way" booklet.
